To the east of Scottsdale separated by rugged
mountain terrain, just west of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community,
and at the door of Tonto National Forest, you will find the master-planned
community of Fountain Hills which is home to over 22,000 residents. About half
of the area of Fountain Hills is residential with another 30% open space
including golf courses and parks. A central figure of Fountain Hills is the
fountain which sprays water every fifteen minutes to a height of 560 feet
making it the fourth-tallest fountain in the world. The town has been described
as one of the most Pet-Friendly towns in the valley with several parks and
great walking paths for owners and their pets. Communities like Fire Rock and
Eagle Mountain provide golf course resort living, other neighborhoods provide a
range of lifestyles from those which feature mountainside estates in upscale
developments, to smaller condos and single-family homes. Fountain Hills
is a self-contained community that offers all the amenities of a larger town
framed in a small community feel. The town square that includes the fountain is
a gathering place for residents where you can picnic at the Fountain Park and
enjoy shops and restaurants. Fountain Hills borders the McDowell Mountain
Regional Park which offers over 50 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and
horseback trails running through the desert landscape. Fort McDowell Resort to
the west of the city provides outdoor jeep excursions and desert adventure
tours and includes live entertainment, dining, and a casino. As temperatures
cool, Fountain Hill’s calendar is filled with special events from art exhibits,
outdoor sporting events, and farmer markets.
